Jane Goodall Quotes To Inspire and Give Us Hope

Jane Goodall

Jane Goodall has been a source of inspiration for me. From a young age, I have admired her work and her contributions to both our natural world and humanity. She was a hero who spoke on behalf of animals and humans who could not speak for themselves.

On October 1, 2025, Jane passed away while on a speaking tour in Los Angeles due to natural causes. She was 91 years old.

Jane was a scientist, conservationist, and humanitarian renowned for her extensive research on chimpanzees, spanning over 60 years at the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania.

In 1991, she established a youth action program named Roots and Shoots. The program empowers young people to identify problems affecting people, animals, and the environment, and to take action in their communities.

Today, the Roots and Shoots program has expanded to more than 75 countries worldwide (and counting), with young people globally continuing her work and carrying on her legacy.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to see Jane Goodall in Phoenix, Arizona, as she spoke about nature, conservation, and her efforts in Tanzania. I left the theater feeling incredibly inspired and hopeful, knowing that her words and wisdom were reaching people globally.

Dr. Jane Goodall has championed the causes of people, animals, and the environment, inspiring millions to take action, voice their concerns, and reflect daily on their impact on the planet.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes from Jane Goodall that have inspired me and provided hope for future generations.

Jane Goodall was also an author. Here are a few of her books you may enjoy reading.

Jane Goodall's contributions extended beyond her research with chimpanzees; she served as a United Nations Messenger of Peace and established the Jane Goodall Institute for Wildlife Research, Education, and Conservation. Her life's work had a lasting impact on our understanding of chimpanzees, other species, and humanity's relationship with the natural world.

She sparked curiosity, hope, and compassion in numerous individuals, including myself. Her optimism and drive to impart her wisdom, urging others to believe in change even when the news is discouraging and progress seems unattainable, were apparent even in her last days.

Jane Goodall was an advocate for humans. For our natural world. For animals. She will be missed by so many of us.

We remain hopeful in young individuals and all of us who are choosing to take a stand and implement small changes in our local communities and everyday lives. Starting locally makes it easier to take action on a global scale.

Jane started this work, but the rest is up to us.
