7 Things To Do On Burano Island in Italy

1. Go For A Long Walk Or Boat Tour in Burano

Bring your walking shoes, or hop on a boat tour!

The island of Burano is designed for walking; since there are no cars on the island, the only ways to explore it are by boat, bicycle, or on foot.

Some people opt for a boat tour of the island. This way, you can see the colorful houses and canals from the water and get a unique perspective of the island.

Or, my favorite way to see the Island is to get lost.

2. Enjoy The Local Cuisine of Burano

Burano is an island built on water, making it an excellent destination for seafood lovers.

The Island is a working fishing village with a variety of fresh seafood dishes prepared by local chefs. Shrimp, eel, clams, and fish are on most menus at the eateries on the Island.

If seafood isn't to your taste and you're looking for more Italian pasta options, consider trying the local bigoli. Bigoli [BEE-goh-lee] is a type of fresh pasta originating from the Venetian region. It resembles spaghetti in length but is thicker than typical noodles.

Whatever your culinary pleasure, come with an appetite and enjoy the local dishes! It rarely disappoints.

Ferries depart every 20–30 minutes throughout the day.
